NELSON MORALES was 9 years old when he
began learning the flamenco guitar. He studied
with Roberto Reyes a New York City Flamenco
guitarist who had a wealth of performance
experience including having played with famous
guitarists Paco Peña, Sebicas, Habichuela, and
Paco de Lucia. At age 15, he moved to New
England and continued his studies in Flamenco for
three more years with Juan de la Sierra. Nelson
worked as a soloist during his college years to
supplement his income.
For the following 20 years, he continued playing
as a hobby. In 1989 he began supporting his self-
studies with annual visits to Spain. In 1999, he
befriended award winning classical guitarist
Kevin Morse and began intensive study with him.
An alumnus of “Flamenco Soltado” Nelson
resides in Hendersonville, NC where he is
developing “Flamenco In The Woods" to
organize events, concerts, and workshops in the
Carolina Mountains to share the Music and
Culture of Spain.
