
SUSANA BUTLER nurtured her love for dance from
childhood thru her university years by studying ballet,
modern and character dance. While living in New Orleans,
Susana discovered her passion for flamenco. She began her
Flamenco studies there in 2001 with Solangel Calix of Alianza
Flamenco. During her time in New Orleans, she also studied
with visiting Flamenco Artists, Antonio Hildago, Antonio
Vargas and Gloria de Jerez.
Susana moved to WNC in December of 2004. She has been a
student of Jose de Guadalupe of Greenville, SC since 2006
and has performed with him at festivals and educational
demonstrations. In 2006 she founded Flamenco Soltado.
Susana has augmented her training by attending workshops
in Washington DC, Chicago, Miami and Atlanta studying with
Flamenco Masters and Artists "La Farruca", Carmela Greco,
Saray Montoyo, La Meira, Antonio Vargas, Pamela Gomez,
Cihtli Ocampo, Barbra Breton, Edwin Aparicio, Timo Lozano,
Celia Fonta, Ulrika Frank and Leandra la Greca.
In June of 2009 she traveled to Sevilla, Spain where she
trained with Angel Atienza at Ados Escuela de Flamenco and
with famed "gitano" dancer Concha Vargas.
Susana now lives in Mt Pleasant, SC and teaches Flamenco
Dance at Creative Spark Center for the Arts. She is the
Creative Director and lead dancer of Flamenco Soltado.
